Srinagar, Oct 5: The National Investigation Agency has arrested one person during a major operation targeting a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) conspiracy case, after conducting raids across five states on Saturday.
National Investigation Agency Spokesperson said that the operation was a part of an ongoing investigation into terrorist activities linked to the JeM.
He said that the arrested person namely Sheikh Sultan Salah UddinAyubi @Ayubi was taken into custody following searches at 26 locations across Assam, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Jammu & Kashmir.
“Ayubi’s arrest is related to his role in conspiracy case RC-13/2024/NIA/DLI, and he will be produced before the NIA Special Court in Patiala House, New Delhi,” the spokesperson said.
He also said that several other suspects were rounded up for questioning. The NIA teams also seized incriminating documents, electronic devices, pamphlets, and magazines during these raids, which are currently being examined for further evidence.
“These materials will provide us with more leads as the investigation progresses,” he added.
The suspects were reportedly involved in radicalising people and spreading terrorist propaganda inspired by JeM. “They were motivating youth to join the JeM and commit violent terror acts across India,” he said.
The raids took place at several locations including Goalpara (Assam), Aurangabad, Jalna, and Malegaon (Maharashtra), Meerut and Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Delhi, and Baramulla, Pulwama, and Ramban (Jammu & Kashmir), he said adding that the investigation into the case are ongoing.
