Budgam, Sep 05: Former Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) Vice President, Omar Abdullah on Thursday filed his nomination papers for the Budgam assembly constituency. He is contesting for both the Budgam and Ganderbal constituencies.
The daughter of the jailed Sarjan Ahmad Wagay, popularly known as Sarjan Barkati, from Reban Shopian also filed her father’s nomination papers for the Beerwah constituency in Budgam. She also submitted her father’s nomination papers for the Ganderbal constituency.
Another candidate who submitted his nomination papers for the Beerwah constituency is Farooq Ahmad Ganaie from Sozieth Gooripora Budgam, an independent candidate and former member of Jamaat-e-Islami.
After submitting his nomination papers, Omar Abdullah told the reporters that his colleagues aimed to demonstrate that the National Conference was entering this election from a position of strength rather than weakness. “Contesting from two seats signifies strength and serves as evidence of the party’s resilience,” he said.
Abdullah said if there were any concerns regarding his potential loss in Budgam, his party colleagues would not have permitted him to run from this constituency.
The NC leader said there is a favourable wave for the National Conference across Baramulla, Srinagar and Anantnag, and he anticipates success for the party and its alliance candidates.
