Srinagar, Aug 28: In a historic development for Jammu and Kashmir, international cricketers will return to the region for the first time in nearly 40 years. The Legends League Cricket (LLC) will culminate in Srinagar this October, marking the region’s return to the international cricketing stage.
The LLC, which commences on September 20 at Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur, will feature legendary cricketers from around the globe competing across four Indian cities. The Sher-i-Kashmir International Cricket Stadium in Srinagar will host the final leg of the tournament, with the concluding matches scheduled for October 10. The final match is set for October 16 at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar.
Raman Raheja, Co-Founder of Legends League Cricket, expressed enthusiasm about the event’s significance for the region. “This is a tremendous opportunity for the people of Kashmir to witness live cricket for the first time in almost four decades,” Raheja stated. “It also offers cricketers a chance to experience the stunning beauty of Kashmir and the warm hospitality of Srinagar.”
The LLC, renowned for its exhilarating matches, attracted a viewership of 180 million across India last season. This year’s lineup includes recently retired stars like Shikhar Dhawan, promising an even more thrilling experience for fans.
A total of 25 matches will be played among six teams, with the final match marking the historic return of international cricket to Kashmir. The region’s last international cricket match took place in 1983 at the Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium.
Preparations for this landmark event are already underway, with the Sports Council spearheading efforts to ensure a successful and memorable cricketing experience for the Valley.
