Pulwama, Aug 24: District Development Council (DDC) Chairman and District President of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Pulwama, Syed Bari Andrabi, announced his resignation from the party on Saturday. The senior politician cited the party’s divisive policies and nepotism as the primary reasons for his decision.
Addressing the media at his official residence, Andrabi expressed his disappointment with the recent actions of the PDP leadership. He emphasised that his entry into politics was driven by certain principles, which he continues to uphold.
“I joined politics on principles, and I still have high respect for those principles. I cannot shy away from them,” he said. Andrabi said that he is well aware of the political developments in Jammu and Kashmir and stressed the need for unity among the people of the Union Territory.
He called for efforts to consolidate public support for philosophies that promote unity while opposing those that foster discord. “We will support those political philosophies that bolster unity and will oppose those creating discord,” he said.
In a pointed critique of the PDP, Andrabi highlighted what he described as a pattern of favoritism and division within the party. He accused the PDP leadership of securing safe mandates for their relatives in select constituencies while neglecting others.
“The recent mandate pattern shows that PDP leadership has secured mandates for their kith and kin in seemingly safe zones. He said that other aspects across North and South Kashmir constituencies depict PDP is fostering division.
“From Kreeri to Pampore, Tral, Wachi, Shopian, to Anantnag East and West, the majority of candidates fighting elections after defection are from PDP,” he said, adding that this discord shown by the PDP was the primary reason for his decision to resign from the party and give up his basic membership.
