Srinagar, Aug 21: Zaffer Mir (Lasjan), a former MNC executive and grandson of the renowned leader Mir Lasjan, officially joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday at the party headquarters here.
The PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti, presided over the joining ceremony and warmly welcomed Zaffer Mir and his considerable group of supporters.
Zaffer Mir is not new to the political landscape; he comes from a lineage deeply rooted in political service. He is the son of Ghulam Nabi Mir (Lasjan), a technocrat-turned-politician who played a pivotal role as a founding member and former general secretary of the PDP. This background highlights the continuity of leadership and commitment within the Mir family towards the PDP’s vision.
During the ceremony, Mir expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the party leadership, particularly Mehbooba Mufti. He said his recent efforts to garner support for the PDP during the parliamentary elections have now culminated in his formal association with the party.
Reflecting on his decision, Zaffer said, “This feels more like a homecoming. My father’s foundational role in this party has always kept our family’s emotions and hearts closely tied to the PDP. The revered leadership of Mufti Sahib has been a guiding light for us, and today, I pledge my unwavering support and commitment to furthering the party’s mission.”
He also laid out his immediate plans, stressing the importance of grassroots engagement. He articulated his determination to ensure that the public is well-informed about the PDP’s agenda and manifesto.
“As the assembly elections draw near, this time is crucial. I am dedicated to campaigning rigorously so that the people who look to our leadership for hope and direction receive clear and consistent guidance. My focus will be on bridging the gap between the party’s vision and the people’s aspirations,” Mir concluded.
