Every year the nation celebrates the independence day to arouse the national consciousness to sensitise the citizens about the value of freedom that was gained after continuous sacrifices by leaders and unsung heroes from different parts of India. Sacrifices of these selfless people make India a nation that is based on the foundations of unity guided by the common goal of upholding the territorial integrity and sovereignty at any cost.To achieve this freedom people adopted the approach of forging the brotherhood based on the civilizational values. It indeed galvanised the people and ultimately India made a tryst with destiny at the stroke of the midnight. But looking in the hindsight, one is compelled to see that India is deviating from the national objective of defeating subversion and is squandering the strategic assets when the global geo-political scenario is changing fast.Europe has lost its predominance ,United Kingdom that colonised the most of world is going through acute political upheaval. Not only that terrorism has engulfed the world in its tentacles.Terrorism is not restricted to arms and warfare but it includes the digital usage of the technology leading to unethical transactions at various levels. The impact of Russia-Ukraine war is having its side effects in various parts of the world.Israel-Palestine conflict has entered the worst phase posing serious challenges. For India these developments have a definite consequences that can led to devastating effects.Indian subcontinent is home to different nations now. Thanks to the erstwhile imperial British rule.It balkanised India by engineering the genocidal attrition. It encouraged the holocaust in 1947 that ultimately led to partition of India and creation of Pakistan.Things did not end here. This spree of balkanisation led to the grave persecution of Bengalies in East Pakistan. The result was the creation of another nation called Bangladesh. It is a paradox that Bangladesh that was carved to safeguard the human rights of the persecuted people has ended up more inhuman than its persecutor Pakistan. The recent bloodbath in Bangladesh after the open revolt against Sheikh Hasina has exposed the radical and regressive faultlines in the erstwhile Pakistan.Shiekh Hasina fled to India.State of minorities and law and order is worst.India’s neighbourhood is inflicted with multiple faultlines that can have damaging effect on Indian political and social set up,keeping in view the diverse socio-religious composition of India.Turmoil in Pakistan has started and a rebellion akin to Bangladesh is now open.Sheikh Hasina the exiled Prime Minister of Bangladesh has spilled the beans and accused USA of destabilising her government and subjecting her nation to destruction.Pakistan is totally under the grip of Chinese control and its army is playing the frontline role to bring it under its total control. So that it can use radicalisation and terrorism as its state policy with impunity. The cursory glance on the Indian neighbourhood in the Eastern and Western borders gives a grim picture.During the run upto the 1971 war that led to the creation of Bangladesh India saw the tremendous influx of the Bangladeshi refugees.History is witness how it posed a serious challenge to the Indian economy and the Indira Gandhi government. Now things have reached a new normal.West Bengal politics is dictated by the refugee influx from Bangladesh.India has to keep its fingers crossed to uphold its national security with a firm grip on the internal security. These events in the neighbourhood are guided by the religious radicalisation.India has witnessed the impact of terrorism and the radicalisation injected by it in Jammu and Kashmir under the Operation Topac orchestrated by Genral Zia –ul-Haq to balkanise India. Its poisonous effect is still visible on the ground as it has devastated Jammu and Kashmir by rupturing its social and political existence. On this 78th independence day India must ponder over its security challenges that are emanating in the neighbourhood. There is a need of “the new lamps for the old” when it comes to the national security. The traditional approach of bilateralism won’t work.India will have to chalk its own trajectory to safeguard its territorial integrity and sovereignty. All eyes will be fixed on the speech of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will address the nation today.Hope he touches the challenges to Indian nation from the emerging turmoil in the neighbourhood.Surely,he must indicate the national policy to defeat any challenges emanating from the radicalisation in Bangladesh and Pakistan in his independence day speech to assure the nation.
