Ganderbal, Jul 28: In the well-developed Batwina area of Ganderbal, farmers have extensively cultivated watermelon.
These watermelons are expected to hit the markets in the coming days, providing farmers with a much-needed source of income to meet their daily needs.
Sarfraz Ahmed, an educated young man from the district, shared his story of success. After completing his education, instead of seeking government jobs, he chose to cultivate vegetables and watermelons on his native land alongside his brother. This decision has proven to be profitable, and he now encourages other young men to join the agricultural sector.
Another seasoned farmer, Abdul Ahad Kumar, mentioned that he has been involved in agriculture for nearly two decades and supports his family through this work. However, he pointed out a critical issue facing farmers in the region: a shortage of water necessary for farming.
Kumar emphasized the need for borewells to address this issue and called for support from the agriculture department.
Unfortunately, he claimed that they are not receiving any support or advice from the department, which hampers their farming activities.
