Pulwama, July 17: Renowned Shia scholar, Sheikh Ghulam Rasool Noorani, from Gangoo village of Pulwama said that 10th of Moharram, also known as Ashura, which commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), conveys a universal message to stand against tyranny.
He was speaking to the media at Gangoo village of Pulwama during the Moharram procession.
Noorani emphasised that the significance of this day transcends the Shia community and belongs to all humanity.
“This day conveys a universal message,” Noorani said, adding that every human being, irrespective of religion or race, has an innate desire to live in peace.
“It is this natural tendency that makes man dislike oppression for himself and for others,” he explained, highlighting the inherent human resistance to tyranny.
The scholar referenced the last will of the fourth Caliph of Islam, Hazrat Ali (AS), to his sons Imam Hassan ( AS) and Imam Hussain( AS) , urging them to always support the oppressed and oppose the tyrant.
Noorani elaborated on the historical context, noting that Imam Hussain ( AS) left his home to stand against the lawlessness and immorality unleashed by Yazid after assuming the throne of Caliphate.
“He didn’t want to wage a war but to reform the corrupt system,” Noorani said, adding that Imam Hussain’s sole purpose was to call people to righteousness and warn them against wrongdoing.
He described Karbala as a school for youth, encouraging them to emulate the character of Imam Hussain( AS).
“As long as youth follow the character of Imam Hussain, they will not go astray and fall prey to social evils like drug abuse, immorality, and moral degradation,” Noorani said.
He urged young people to draw inspiration from Imam Hussain’s legacy to resist social evils and strive for a just and moral society.
The scholar’s message during the procession was a call for unity and moral integrity, resonating with the universal values of justice and righteousness that Imam Hussain’s martyrdom represents.
