Ganderbal, July 09: The Tourist Place in Gagangeer area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district is grappling with significant challenges due to a persistent lack of electricity. Local hotel owners have reported severe difficulties in maintaining operations, as the power supply has been inconsistent for the past two months.
Previously, the hotels in Gagangeer enjoyed a reliable 24-hour electricity supply from the Sonmarg line, a critical factor in accommodating the influx of tourists, particularly during the Amarnath Yatra season. However, two months ago, the power supply was abruptly cut off, causing considerable inconvenience to both hotel owners and their guests.
“They said that we are not being given power supply 24/7, despite paying our monthly tariffs on time. They mentioned that we are demanding the previous 24/7 power schedule.”
The sudden 24/7 disruption of electricity has left Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, who rely on these hotels for accommodation, in a difficult situation. Hotel owners have voiced their concerns and have urgently requested the intervention of the Lieutenant Governor and senior power officials to restore the 24/7 continuous power supply. They emphasize that immediate action is necessary to prevent further operational difficulties and to ensure a comfortable stay for tourists.
The delegation of hotel owners highlighted the importance of a stable electricity supply for their businesses and the local economy, stressing that the ongoing issue is not only affecting their livelihood but also tarnishing the reputation of Gagangeer as a tourist destination. They are hopeful that the authorities will address their plea and take prompt measures to reinstate the 24-hour electricity supply to avoid further disruptions.
