The annual 20th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Srinagar was conducted on 25th June, 2024. The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir A Ganai who was the Chief Guest of the event and Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension, the Guest of Honour. The meeting was attended by Dr Jagvir Dixit, Dr Javid Mughloo, Dr Bilal A Lone, Scientists of the Kendra, District Officers of Development Departments (Agriculture & allied sectors) and among others by Agripreneurs and progressive farmers of the district.
Dr. Gazanfer and Dr. S A Simnani welcomed the dignitaries, the participating officers from the line departments, Agripreneurs and progressive farmers from different sectors of Agriculture associated with the diverse farming sectors wherein Director Extension felicitated the Chairman cum chief guest Prof. Ganai on behalf of the KVK Srinagar. On the occasion a booklet titled, “Farmer’s Question Bank Guide” authored by the scientists of the Kendra and foreword by Prof. Makhdoomi as one stop solution for addressing the day-to-day challenges of the farming community was released by Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ganai. The felicitation and the booklet release were moderated by Dr Saima Paul, Dr Rayees A Wani Dr Aasima and Dr Uzma Bashir.
Head of the Kendra Dr. S A Simnani presented detailed power point presentations of Action Taken Report and Annual progress report for the year 2023-24, and proposed action plan for the year 2024-25 for valuable inputs and suggestions from the learned audience for its refinement in larger interest of the farming community and subsequent approval by the competent authority. He assured that the Kendra shall strive to provide a complete technological backup support & carve innovative agriculture solutions to revive the niche crops of the concerned district.
In his address, the chairman exhorted upon the officers of departments and scientists of Kendra to make concerted efforts to transform UT of J&K into a national bio-economy model through effective implementation of HADP. He further directed to undertake a comprehensive soil profiling and soil mapping of the district in addition to the soil zonation at Panchayat, Block and Zonal level to make location specific nutrient management recommendations for enhancing farmers income. He appreciated the efforts of Kendra in mitigating the farmers problems and especially conducting skill entrepreneurship development out programmes for rural youth, bonafide and school dropouts.
Director Extension Prof. Makhdoomi appreciated the efforts of KVK in carrying out their mandated activities religiously and underscored the need towards transforming our growers as Champion farmers. The meeting concluded with the vote of Thanks by Dr Rayees.
