Kishtwar, June 22: Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, former minister and Vice Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), toured the Tatani and Bugrana panchayats in Tehsil Drabshalla of district Kishtwar. During his visit, he urged the government to clear the pending financial liabilities under various schemes, saying it has a severe impact on the residents.
Saroori in a statement highlighted the plight of numerous beneficiaries who have completed their houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) but have only received the second installment of the promised funds, despite waiting for three years. This delay has caused significant suffering for the affected families, he said.
The DPAP leader brought attention to the unpaid wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) for unskilled labourers. He said the liabilities related to Individual Household Latrines (IHHL) under the Swachh Bharat Mission remain unsettled. Despite the Rural Development Department having prepared and uploaded the necessary documents last year, no payments have been made to the beneficiaries, which Saroori described as a grave concern.
The former minister made a fervent appeal to the Lieutenant Governor to personally review the functioning of the Rural Development Department to ensure the immediate settlement of the liabilities owed to the poor beneficiaries.
During his tour, Saroori, accompanied by local leaders, visited several households to offer personal condolences to the families of the recently deceased, including Molvi Liyaqat Ali sahab, Molvi Mohammed Ashraf sahab, Ayaz Hussain Lone sahab, Bahar Din Lone sahab of Tatani area, and Ghulam Mouhiuddin Narwani sahab of Bugrana, Drabshalla.
