Kulgam, June 14: The Kulgam police on Friday attached two double-storied residential houses and a cowshed belonging to drug peddlers in the Kulgam district.
In a statement, the police said that continuing their action against drug peddlers, they attached properties including a double-storied residential house measuring 1093.50 sq ft and a cowshed measuring 437.25 sq ft (both valued at approximately 70 lakhs) belonging to the notorious drug peddler Bashir Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohd Ahsan Ganie, a resident of Nassu Badragund, Qazigund. Ganie is presently lodged in Central Jail Kot Balwal, Jammu under the PIT NDPS Act. Additionally, a newly constructed two-storied residential house measuring 941.36 sq ft (valued at approximately 73 lakhs) of Ghulam Nabi Kuttay, son of Abdul Aziz Kuttay, a resident of Kaladrund, Frisal, was also attached. Kuttay is currently under police custody.
The police said that these actions were taken under Sections 68-E read with 68-F (1) of the NDPS Act of 1985 and are linked with Case FIR No. 40/2023 U/S 8/15 of the NDPS Act of Police Station Qazigund and FIR No. 26/2024 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act of Police Station Yaripora, respectively.
“The properties were identified as illegally acquired during the course of the investigation/enquiry conducted by Kulgam Police. The properties were prima facie acquired from illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances by the aforementioned drug peddlers,” they said.
The police further said that this operation reaffirms their commitment to combating the drug menace. Local residents of the area have praised the police initiative.
