Leh, Aug 19: Nine soldiers were killed and another was critically injured when their vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Kyari town of Leh district on Saturday.
According to PRO Defence Lt Colonel PS Sahu, Leh told Rising Kashmir that an incident occurred near Kyari Town of Leh district after their vehicle plunges into deep gorge resulting nine Army personnel lost their lives while another sustained Injuries.
He said that the rescue operation is underway and the Injured has been taken to MI Hospital for treatment.
SSP Leh P.D Nitiya said that around 1645hrs an army vehicle in which 10 army personnel were travelling including the driver from Leh to Nyoma direction, met with an accident 6km short of Kiari in which the vehicle rolled down into the gorge skidding off the road.
She said as soon as the reports reached local police, the team rushed to the spot and all the injured were shifted to army MI room. “Unfortunately 8 personnel died on the spot, while one personnel succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Leh hospital,” she added.
