Srinagar, March 13: The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced that a total of 89 unconnected habitations in Chenani Assembly Constituency have been identified for road connectivity under PMGSY-IV. The initiative aims to improve rural infrastructure and enhance accessibility in the region.
In response to a starred question by MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia in the Legislative Assembly, the government confirmed that these habitations have been shortlisted under the scheme.
It also provided details on PMGSY roads constructed in Udhampur District and Chenani Constituency over the past two years. 136 PMGSY roads in Udhampur District are yet to receive land compensation. In addition, 14 bridges on PMGSY roads in Chenani Constituency remain unconstructed, the govt said.
It said that the matter has been taken up with the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India, for sanctioning funds for the missing bridges. Construction work will commence as soon as approval is received from the central authorities.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to road maintenance, stating that PMGSY roads remain under a defect liability period for five years after construction. During this period, the contractor is responsible for maintaining the roads.
Additionally, after this period, routine maintenance is funded through the UT budget under the C&T head. Permanent restoration works and the installation of crash barriers are also carried out under the sub-head 2181-PMGSY roads.
“For better monitoring and transparency, the government has implemented an electronic road maintenance system (eMarg), ensuring that maintenance is efficiently tracked, and payments are released accordingly, it said.
