Jammu , Jan 16: In a significant crackdown, a total of eighty-three hardcore narco smugglers have been apprehended from various areas in Jammu over the past few months, accompanied by the unexpected recovery of weapons, including pistols and kattas.
The legal process to attach the properties of these narco smugglers has been set in motion, as authorities express deep concern over the recovery of weapons along with narcotics. SSP Samba, Benam Tosh, stated, “This is something new which was never seen before.”
During investigations, it has been revealed that these arrested narco smugglers have adopted a changed strategy, now arming themselves to confront security forces during raids. Most of the apprehended individuals are local residents with cross-border connections, employing weapons to resist security forces as per directives received from across the border. The arrests, made in hotspots where drug transactions were rampant, have yielded substantial quantities of ‘Chitta-Heroine’ along with weapons from areas namely, Bari Brahmana, Sarore, Rakh in Vijaipur, Balole Khud in Kalu Chack, Teli Basti and some other areas. Recent apprehensions in Supwal area resulted in the arrest of three narco smugglers, leading to the recovery of a ‘desi katta,’ heroin, and cash.
The identified heroin suppliers from the Supwal arrests are Abdul Habib alias Beem, Basharat Ali alias Bishu, and Mohd. Sabar alias Pallu. The seized items included a ‘desi katta,’ heroin valued at approximately Rs. 16,000.00, and cash amounting to approximately Rs. 7,200.00 from Abdul Habib. Basharat Ali and Mohd. Sabar were found with heroin valued at approximately Rs. 7,000.00 and cash amounting to Rs. 2,500.00.
The process to attach the illegally acquired properties of the narco smugglers has been initiated, informed SSP Samba. The arrests and discoveries highlight the evolving tactics employed by these individuals and the increasing complexity of the fight against narcotics and related criminal activities in the region.
