Raipur, Jan 21 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced significant improvements in the internal security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the North East, and Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas during a review meeting in Raipur. Shah highlighted a nearly 75% reduction in violence and an 80% reduction in geographical constriction in these regions.
Chairing the meeting on the LWE situation in Chhattisgarh, Shah commended the efforts of central and state security forces for confining the menace to specific pockets. He expressed determination to free these areas from the issue within the next three years.
Key attendees included Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy CM Vijay Sharma, Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, state chief secretary Amitabh Jain, Director General of Police Ashok Juneja, and senior officials from the Intelligence Bureau and CRPF.
Shah highlighted the withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) from almost 80% of areas in the North East. He stressed the importance of a detailed roadmap involving all stakeholders to address the entire ecosystem sustaining LWE.
The Home Minister directed state police to fill security gaps, ensure comprehensive investigations, monitor prosecution, cut off finance streams, and continue intelligence-led operations. He emphasized the need to review inputs from the Multi-Agency Centre and operationalize verified information.
Shah called for saturation coverage of Central and state government schemes in LWE-affected districts and recommended utilizing security force camps to extend benefits to villages in proximate areas. He urged flexibility in fund allocation and usage in highly LWE-affected districts in Chhattisgarh.
In a statement issued here today, it also mentioned a detailed interaction between the Union Home Secretary and Collectors and Superintendents of Police from highly LWE-affected districts, following the direction of the Union Minister.
