Srinagar, Aug 01: The government has started 50 new colleges and 25,000 additional seats in the last one year to boost the education sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
“For the brighter future of the students in Jammu and Kashmir, two colleges of architecture and one engineering college have been established. It is transforming knowledge-based education into skill-based one and the industry interference has become an important part of higher education in the union territory,” an official said.
He said the online services in the education sector include online submission of applications for recognition and affiliation by 6,000 private schools with more than 10.5 lakh students and initiation of Digi Locker for making available marks certificates issued by JKBOSE, which benefits at least 4 lakh students every year. Learning management systems and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions have been introduced in colleges, he added.
Highlighting the development work in the sector, the official said, “The Student Health Card Scheme has been launched, in which 12 lakh cards have been issued for the first time, 803 vocational labs have been established; 38,000 teachers who are working in the education department across J&K have been regularised by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.”
“Transparent transfers and postings done via online applications; 2,227 Schools Solar powered; 127 Atal Tinkering Labs established; and 500 more shall be established during 2023–24,” he said, adding, “The government’s relentless efforts have resulted in landmark achievements over the past few years. From establishing IIMs, IITs, and AIIMS, the transformation has been phenomenal. With effective implementation of schemes and projects, we’re paving the way for a brighter future for our students.”
