37th Sub Junior National Softball Championship: J&K begins campaign in style; seals berth in Quarter Finals

Jammu, Dec 21: Showing extraordinary skill, promise and composure, the Jammu and Kashmir boys won three league matches on the trot to seal berth in the quarterfinals, while girls defeated formidable Maharashtra to enter the last eight stage of the ongoing 37th Sub Junior National Softball Championship, being organised by Softball Association of Jammu and Kashmir, under the auspices of Softball Association of India and J&K Sports Council at MA Stadium, here.
The Championship was declared open by the Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma in an impressive opening ceremony yesterday evening, which among others was attended by Director General Youth Services and Sports, Rajinder Singh Tara and Secretary J&K Sports Council, Ms Nuzhat Gul.
In the boys section, Jammu and Kashmir crushed Haryana by sixteen homes to two (16-2) in a one-sided affair; thrashed Jharkhand by twelve homes to nil (12-0) and defeated Chandigarh in an easy contest by nine goals to one (9-1), thus qualifying for the quarterfinals.
In other matches of the boys section, Andhra Pradesh got the better of Chandigarh by a solitary home (1-0), Kerala blanked Bihar (10-0), Chhattisgarh trounced Uttar Pradesh (10-0), Punjab outplayed Gujarat (10-0), Madhya Pradesh drubbed Delhi (10-0), Andhra Pradesh crushed Himachal Pradesh (16-0), Rajasthan prevailed over Maharashtra (11-07), Orissa blanked Uttar Pradesh (11-0), Haryana thrashed Jharkhand (10-0), Chandigarh crushed Himachal Pradesh (12-0) and Chhattisgarh beat Uttar Pradesh (10-0).
Meanwhile, in the Girls Section, J&K defeated Maharashtra by four homes to one (4-1) to enter the quarterfinals. In other matches, Telangana trounced Chhattisgarh by ten homes to nil (10-0), Andhra Pradesh crushed Uttar Pradesh (15-0), Kerala got the better of Chhattisgarh in a close contest by (6-0), Maharashtra thrashed Orissa (12-0), Rajasthan beat J&K in a close contest by (3-2), Madhya Pradesh drubbed Haryana by (10-0), Punjab crushed Tamil Nadu (15-0), Haryana beat Manipur (8-0), Tamil Nadu thrashed Gujarat (15-0), Punjab blanked Gujarat (13-0) and Madhya Pradesh thrashed Manipur (13-0).
The Championship is being held under the overall supervision of J&K Sports Council & J&K Softball Association.
