Baramulla, Aug 27: Baramulla emerged victorious in the grand finale of the UT Level Inter District U-17 Cricket Tournament 2024, defeating Shopian by 8 runs. The tournament was organized by the Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Department of J&K and hosted by DYSSO Anantnag at the Railway Ground Hassanpora, Bijbehara, Anantnag, on Tuesday.
Batting first, Baramulla set a target of 134 runs. Ansh Pandith contributed 22 runs, Javaid Khanday 19, and Salman Ashraf 17. Shopian’s bowling attack, led by Arhan, Maiser, and Jerjees, who took 2 wickets each, restricted Baramulla’s scoring but couldn’t contain them below the mark.
In response, Shopian’s chase fell short by 8 runs, managing only 126 runs. Arfat Qayoom’s 30 runs, Malik Ibn Muslim’s 24, and Murtaza Ishaq’s 23 couldn’t secure victory for their side. Junaid Ashraf from Baramulla was the standout performer with 3 wickets, while Mudasir Baba took 2 wickets.
During the post-match presentation, DYSSO Anantnag, Raja Yaqoob, and other officials of the YSS Department presented trophies to both teams. Junaid Ashraf was named Man of the Match for his 15-run contribution with the bat and 3-wicket haul in the final.
