Srinagar, Dec 10: The Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), 3,97,459 houses were sanctioned, with 2,42,575 houses completed as of December 2024 over the last five years.
The Union Minister shared these details while responding to a query on the implementation of the rural housing scheme to provide “Housing for All” by 2024, especially targeting rural areas to uplift economically weaker sections.
He said that during 2019-20, 38,592 houses were sanctioned, with 5,016 completed. In 2020-21, the number surged to 64,012 sanctioned houses, of which 21,569 were completed. He added that 55,807 houses were sanctioned in 2021-22, and 42,515 were successfully finished.
In 2022-23, 7,786 houses were approved, with 79,271 completed. During 2023-24, the sanctioned number rose significantly to 1,37,201, with 79,746 houses completed.
The Minister said that the government remains committed to accelerate the housing project for rural beneficiaries. However, he added that despite the achievements, challenges persist in ensuring all sanctioned houses are completed within the stipulated time frame.
Dr. Pemmasani said that funds under the scheme are directly released to the state or union territory based on project demands and unspent balances.
He also said that under PMAY-G, houses are built with improved designs to ensure quality and affordability. The initiative also promotes eco-friendly construction practices to sustain the environment, he added.
