Srinagar, June 7: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday intensified its crackdown on illegal mining and unauthorized transportation of minerals, seizing 20 vehicles during separate enforcement operations in Ganderbal and Shopian districts.
In Ganderbal, police teams conducting routine patrolling and checking operations seized nine vehicles found transporting illegally extracted construction material within the jurisdiction of Police Station Ganderbal.
Officials said the vehicles were carrying mining material without valid authorization, prompting action under the prescribed norms. The matter was referred to the Geology and Mining Department, which imposed penalties in accordance with the law.
In Shopian, a special naka established by Police Station Shopian intercepted nine tippers and dumpers carrying mining material from Pulwama towards Shopian without valid royalty documents. The vehicles were seized and a case, FIR No. 107/2026, was registered at Police Station Shopian. Investigation has been taken up.
In a separate operation, Police Post Berthipora seized two tractors allegedly involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals. Police registered FIR No. 62/2026 at Police Station Keller and initiated further investigation.
Police said the drive against illegal mining will continue across the Valley to protect natural resources and curb unlawful extraction and transportation of minerals. The public has been urged to report illegal mining activities, with police assuring confidentiality of informants.
