19th Jammu District Fencing Championship concludes, showcasing promising fencers

Jammu, June 17: The three-day 19th Jammu District Fencing Championship, organized by the Jammu District Amateur Fencing Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, came to an exhilarating end on Saturday at the Indoor Hall, M A Stadium. With participation from approximately 100 fencers representing various clubs, schools, and universities in Jammu district, the championship proved to be a thrilling display of talent and skill.
The closing ceremony was graced byPawan Kumar, JKAS, Additional Commissioner in Div. Commissioner’s office, as the chief guest, and Rajeev Sharma, Member of the J&K Sports Council, as the guest of honor. Miss Rachna Jamwal and Shotu Lal Sharma supervised the event, with the assistance of technical officers, including Ujjwal Gupta, Sheffali Gupta, Tony Mattoo, Saniya Mattoo, Shivani Hans, Dimple Thappa.
M.J. Sharma IFS (retd.), the President of Jammu District Fencing Association and founder President of JKAFA, served as the Guest of the occasion. Also present were Bhanu Vijay Sharma, General Secretary, and Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Treasurer of the Association. In his welcome address, Mr. M.J. Sharma expressed the association’s commitment to elevate the fencing game to new heights.
He extended gratitude to Nuzhat Gull, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, for her unwavering support, which has transformed the sports scenario in the J&K UT. Sharma emphasized the role of sports in building character and developing resilience in players to face life’s challenges. He proudly mentioned the 30-year history of fencing in J&K UT and highlighted the achievement of two fencers being selected for the Asian Games, along with four fencers chosen for the World University Games.
Chief guest Pawan Sharma and guest of honor Rajeev Sharma commended the efforts of the J&K Amateur Fencing Association and the coaches for their dedicated work in elevating the sport to new heights. Rajeev Sharma congratulated the district association for successfully organizing the event and assured the support of the J&K Sports Council to all committed and hardworking sportspersons bringing laurels to J&K UT. The function concluded with a vote of thanks to the J&K Sports Council, the press, parents, and all dignitaries.
