Verinag, Dec 28: In order to promote winter tourism and woo tourists, the Verinag winter tourism carnival was inaugurated on Wednesday at the famous tourist destination Verinag.

Officials said that the festival is being organized to promote winter tourism at the tourist destination Verinag in south Kashmir.

The festival was organized by the Department of Tourism J&K in collaboration with the Verinag Development Authority (VDA).

An official told Rising Kashmir that Verinag is witnessing a large number of tourists in winter and efforts are being made to promote it on a large scale.

This Winter Carnival was inaugurated by Basharat Qayoom, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag.

He was also the main guest of the event.

A large number of people attended the function at the famous Mughal Garden, Verinag.

During the festival, a series of colorful cultural programs were also held which explored the beautiful musical performances that captivated the audience.

While addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner said that the Verinag Festival is an effort to develop dynamic tourism in winter while gaining the trust from tourism stakeholders.

“Festivals like this give a boost to the tourism industry and help us attract more tourists to these destinations during the winter months,” he said.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that to boost tourism in tourist destinations requires a collective effort of all stakeholders, be it the service providers, hoteliers, or the homestays.

He said measures will be taken to develop this tourist destination that will eventually help boost the local economy.

The Deputy Commissioner said that festivals like these will continue in the future as well and we will have to welcome the tourists in the best way and make them feel comfortable at these destinations.
