One of the common cancers is skin cancer. Skin cancers are often found on areas exposed to the sun such as face, neck, scalp, back of hands and legs. The three main types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma,  squamous cell carcinoma and melanomas.

It is important to look for a new moles, a mole that increases in size, or bleeds a  wound / shave cut that refuses to heal, a black spot under the toenail.

Most skin cancers are treatable so its important to look for them and inform your doctor.

Some prevention modalities are:

1. Limit your exposure to sun : especially from 10 AM to 4PM.

2. Use a sunscreen even on cloudy days

3. Wear long sleeved clothes and wear a cap/hat and cover your hair

4. Avoid getting tanned or sunburnt

Some skin cancers can spread locally and destroy underlying muscle and bone. Melanomas are much less common than other skin cancers but are more dangerous since they can spread to other areas of the body.
