Baramulla, June 07: Police have destroyed opium poppy plants on multiple locations within the north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A police official said that acting on crucial intelligence, the police swiftly responded to reports of illegal poppy cultivation at Poshnag Kreeri, Dangerpora, and Check Sari Pattan.
Under the guidance and supervision of Khalid Ashraf-JKPS, SDPO Kreeri, a police team led by Inspector Arif Hamid from Police Station Kreeri, accompanied by a magistrate, arrived at Poshnag Kreeri.
“With meticulous precision, the police team took action and eradicated the illegally cultivated poppy plants spread across approximately 2.5 kanals of land,” the police official said.
He said that another police team led by Inspector Sarjan Ahmad from Police Station Pattan, under the overall supervision of Altaf Ahmad Khan-JKPS, DySP Operation Pattan, proceeded to Dangerpora and Checksari Pattan.
“With the support of a magistrate, they successfully destroyed the illicit poppy plants flourishing on a field measuring approximately 7 marlas.”
Police said that cases pertaining to these incidents have been registered under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Kreeri and Pattan.
The investigation is now underway to identify the landowners responsible for these illegal activities, and appropriate legal action will be taken against them.
