Baramulla, April 17: Locals in Delina area of Baramulla staged a protest demonstration on Monday morning against the acute shortage of water in the area.
The protest led to a disruption in traffic movement on the Srinagar Baramulla highway for several hours.
Protesters carried empty water pitchers and chanted slogans against the administration's failure to address the issue.
Despite repeated complaints to the Jal Sakhti department, the locals claim that no action has been taken to resolve the crisis.
"We have been suffering for a long time due to the acute shortage of drinking water in our area. We have brought this issue to the attention of the officials, but they have been callous towards our problems," said a protester.
The protesters blocked the highway to draw the attention of higher authorities towards their plight.
While acknowledging that the blockade may have caused inconvenience to commuters, the locals claimed that they had no other option left.
Officials from the Jal Shakti department and police later visited the spot and assured the protestors of swift action to address the water crisis.

Following their assurance, the protesters dispersed peacefully, and traffic was restored.
The residents of Delina have urged the higher-ups to take immediate action to resolve the water crisis in the area to prevent the locals from suffering any further.
