Srinagar | Budgam, Nov 21: The authorities on Monday exhumed the body of a baby to conduct a DNA test after a family from Budgam alleged that they were handed over a female baby instead of a male baby at SKIMS hospital, Bemina.

The family had accused the hospital authorities of swapping their baby boy with a baby girl, who later died due to critical complications.

The body was exhumed by the forensic team in presence of BMO Budgam and the Naib Tehsildar concerned. After the sample was taken for DNA testing, the body of the baby was again buried, said an official in the District Administration.

Meanwhile, speaking to Rising Kashmir, Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh, head of the family, said the exhumation was done and the sample of the baby was taken. “But our sample (his and his wife’s) was not taken. The doctors told me it will take some 15 days,” he said.

Sheikh had levelled allegations against the hospital authorities of swapping their baby, after which it was decided to exhume the body to conduct DNA so that truth shall come to the fore.
