Abandoned new born found dead at Sopore Hospital

Baramulla, Jan 18: In a tragic incident, a newborn baby was found dead at sub district hospital in the Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said.
A health care official told Rising Kashmir that the baby, who was only a few hours old, was found inside a washroom by hospital staff in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Block Medical Officer Sopore Dr. Zulfikar told Rising Kashmir that the baby was abandoned by an unidentified woman.
“The identity of the mother is currently unknown and the police are investigating the matter,” he added.
An official said that the baby’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Dr. Zulfikar said that a case has been filed in the local police station and an investigation is underway.
“The CCTV footage was availed but till now we couldn’t find any clue in this regard. However, we are investigating the case,” officials added.
