New Delhi, Mar 15: Prominent political leader Zaffer Mir (Lasjan) on Friday advocated for a more compassionate approach towards providing relief to electricity consumers across Jammu & Kashmir.
While welcoming the Administrative Council’s decision to extend the Amnesty Scheme-2022 until March 31, 2025, Mir emphatically underscored the pressing need for additional magnanimous measures to alleviate the plight of the underprivileged.
He emphasized the striking statistic that nearly 30% of the 86% of domestic consumers served by the power company are ensnared in unpaid accumulated dues.
Drawing attention to the tumultuous decades of economic turmoil and security challenges that have afflicted the common citizenry, Zaffer lamented the “myopic policies” and “callous indifference” of previous regimes.
His words resonated with a scathing condemnation of the conventional political establishment, which turned a blind eye to the welfare of the masses, failing to compassionately address their woes.
“The people of the valley have been pushed to the brink by the prevailing circumstances over three tumultuous decades, compounded by the apathy and lack of vision exhibited by those entrusted with their well-being,” Mir remarked with palpable anguish.
In a fervent appeal to Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Zaffer Mir implored him to champion the cause of a special amnesty package from the Center, one that would alleviate the burden of accumulated electricity bills for underprivileged consumers grappling with financial constraints.
“The situation demands a compassionate understanding from our government, affording every family yearning to pay their bills on time a second chance at regaining their dignity,” he urged.
