Kulgam, Sep 03: Imad Nazir, a spirited eleven-year-old from Kulgam district, is breaking barriers and shattering expectations as a specially-abled cricketer. Despite disabilities in his hands and feet, Imad’s passion for cricket burns brighter than ever.
Hailing from Nowpora Ashumji, Imad draws inspiration from Indian cricketing icon Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Battling his own challenges since childhood, Imad’s journey in pursuing his cricketing dreams has been one of grit and determination.
Imad studies in Class 3rd while excelling as an all-rounder on the cricket field. His disabilities haven’t hindered his performance; rather, they’ve fueled his drive to overcome obstacles.
“I play cricket with my friends, borrowing equipment since I don’t have my own. We play with unwavering enthusiasm, despite lacking proper support,” he told Rising Kashmir.
With the unwavering support of his family, Imad stands tall. Although he lost his mother and his father’s income is limited, their encouragement remains a driving force in his journey. However, acquiring a proper sports kit remains a challenge due to financial constraints.
Imad’s plea to the authorities is simple but profound: “I request authorities to help me in this journey. I want to flourish in cricket, following in the footsteps of MS Dhoni, and bring honour to the nation.”
Nazir Ahmad, Imad’s father, said his son was born with disabilities and he diligently sought medical opinions from various hospitals. Medical experts advised that Imad would require extensive medical care.
“Some experts suggested that the surgery alone might cost around 27 lakh rupees, with uncertain outcomes in terms of recovery. Given the high cost and the uncertainty surrounding the success of the surgery, I found myself in a difficult situation,” he recounted.
Despite the challenges, Imad excels in his studies and has a remarkable flair for cricket. Nazir proudly supports his son’s pursuits in both academics and sports, standing by him every step of the way.
Nuzhat Gull, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, has confirmed her intention to meet the young boy in the coming days.
The district administration and police in Kulgam have extended their support to the specially-abled boy, and a local bat manufacturing unit has stepped forward with additional sports equipment.
Furthermore, another lesser-known cricketer, Mumin Liqayat, has also contributed sports equipment to him.
