Kupwara/ Shopian, Oct 12: In commemoration of ‘World Sight Day’, eye screening camps were organised in Kupwara and Shopian districts on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan, inaugurated a ‘Special Eye Screening Camp’ at the DC Office, marking a significant effort toward promoting eye health in the region. The camp, organised by District Health Society Kupwara under the theme “Love Your Eyes at Work,” saw the deployment of an Ophthalmology Surgeon and Ophthalmology Technician.
The DC lauded the Health Department Kupwara for their initiative, emphasising the importance of such camps in benefiting the local population.
Approximately 50 employees of the DC Office Complex underwent eye screenings during the event. The eye screening checkups were also conducted in various health institutions across the district, including Community Health Centers (CHCs), Primary Health Centers (PHCs), and Health and Wellness Centers (H&WCs), benefiting a large number of people.
Chief Medical Officer Kupwara, along with the Medical Superintendent of SDH Kupwara and other officials, actively participated in the event, highlighting the significance of regular eye checkups for maintaining good vision.
In Shopian, the Health Department organised a free eye camp at the District Administrative Complex. The event aimed to create awareness about vision loss, blindness, and vision-related problems while emphasising the importance of good vision for everyone.
BMO Shopian stressed the 20/20/20 rule, urging people to take breaks and rest their eyes every 20 minutes when using digital screens.
