JAMMU, Feb 03: In a remarkable turn of events, more than 320 cancer patients in the Jammu region have successfully defeated the life-threatening disease over the last three and a half years. What makes this achievement even more significant is that all these survivors battled stage four cancer, an advanced stage with typically bleak survival prospects.
Dr. Sunny Jandial from the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) in Jammu and the State Cancer Institute shared insights, highlighting the success stories of these resilient individuals. Crucially, the survivors attribute their recovery to the cashless treatment they received under the Ayushman Bharat initiative.
Babli Kumari, a government employee and a cancer survivor, recounted her journey. “I went to a prestigious hospital in Delhi, and they asked for a deposit of Rs 25 lakh,” she said. Unable to afford such a hefty amount, she turned to the State Cancer Institute in Jammu, where she received full treatment without spending a penny.
Expressing gratitude, Kumari said, “Thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we received free treatment under Ayushman Yojna.”
A total of 1662 cancer patients have availed the benefits of the Ayushman Card, with the insurance company covering a substantial amount of Rs 25,59,900 for these individuals. Currently, over 400 cancer patients continue to benefit from treatment at the State Cancer Institute.
As the world observes World Cancer Day, these success stories underscore the importance of accessible and affordable healthcare. The testimonials of survivors commend the government’s initiatives in making crucial medical care accessible to all, irrespective of their financial background. The figures indicate a significant step towards inclusive and affordable healthcare, bringing hope and encouragement to the fight against cancer.
