Sopore, Dec 3: Police on Sunday disclosed that the mysterious disappearance of 48-year-old Riyaz Ahmad Mir from Zaloora village in North Kashmir’s Sopore has taken a sinister turn with revelations of his murder.
The authorities confirmed the arrest of both the deceased’s wife and her lover in connection with the shocking crime.
A police official said that a dead body of the missing man Riyaz Ahmad Mir, was discovered in a sewage trench within the premises of his residence on Friday that led to an investigation.
While briefing the media about the incident at Bomai police station Sopore, SSP Sopore Shabir Nawab said that a missing report was filed by Shaista, the wife of the deceased, accompanied by concerned relatives and villagers, at the Bomai Police Station in Sopore.
“The authorities, including the Station House Officer (SHO) Bilal Ahmad Khanday and a police party, immediately responded and initiated a search operation,” he said.
SSP Sopore said that during the search, Riyaz Ahmad Mir’s lifeless body was found concealed in a trench covered with a lid in his house’s lawn.
“The discovery prompted the police to seize the body and launch a comprehensive investigation, leading to the registration of a murder case under FIR No. 46/2023 at Bomai Police Station,” he added.
SSP Sopore said that subsequent investigations revealed a chilling narrative as Shaista, under questioning, confessed to orchestrating her husband’s murder in collaboration with her boyfriend, Waseem Akram Lone, son of Farooq Ahmad Lone from Tujjar.
“The authorities arrested the deceased wife, her boyfriend Waseem Akram Lone, and key items, including a rope, used in the crime were recovered.”
The case has been registered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and further investigations are ongoing to unravel the intricate details surrounding this tragic incident.
