Srinagar, Oct 02: Asserting upon the efforts made by security forces in clamping down on perpetrators of violence, Special DG CID, J&K, R.R. Swain on Monday said that their primary struggle is directed against individuals advocating violence and the security forces’ dedication lies with the law-abiding general public.

Our goal is to eliminate fear from the hearts and minds of ordinary citizens, he said.

He said J&K Police is fighting against the enemy which is using outside support.

DG Swain was talking to media persons on the side-lines of Kashmir Marathon-2023”, Run for Peace event, as part of its Civic Action Programme at the Lake View Environmental Park (Police Golf Course), Boulevard Road in Srinagar.

Special DGR.R. Swain said that JK Police is fighting with extra valour against some elements who promote violence adding that challenges before J&K police are quite different than what other forces are facing.

“Our fight is against those promoting violence and our fight is for the general public who respects & abides by the law”, Swain said. “Our endeavour is to root out the level of fear from the common man’s heart and mind”, he said.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Special DG CID, J&K, R.R. Swain expressed his gratitude towards former DGsP A.K. Suri, Gopal Sharma, and Kuldeep Khoda, along with their spouses and other distinguished guests for attending the event.

He commended the extensive participation of athletes from all over the country in this event, which coincided with the auspicious occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday.

R.R. Swain lauded the efforts of ADGP Armed/IR J&K, SJM Gillani, and his team for successfully organizing the event on such a significant day. Drawing from Mahatma Gandhi’s perspective on the role of the police, he emphasized that the success of the police force relies heavily on the support and cooperation of the people.

He reiterated that the police serve the people, with their success being intricately tied to the people’s support.

Furthermore, the special DG highlighted the historical commitment of the J&K Police to combat unlawful activities for the greater good of the public.

He reaffirmed the J&K Police’s dedication to work tirelessly for the safety, security, and well-being of law-abiding citizens to the best of their ability.

On the occasion, A.K. Suri, a retired DGP, spoke during the event and mentioned that he had returned to Kashmir after an absence of seven years.

During this time, he visited various places in the region and noted that the situation had notably changed, with a visible sense of peace prevailing.

Retired DGP commended the recent efforts of the J&K Police, emphasizing their strong determination and commitment to maintaining peace and tranquility in Jammu and Kashmir. He also pointed out the positive impact of sports on one’s health and daily life, highlighting its significance.

In his welcoming address, ADGP Armed/IR J&K, S.J.M Gillani, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all the dignitaries, participants, their families, and members of the media for their presence and support at the event.

He said that it was an honor and a source of happiness for the Jammu and Kashmir Police to have three former DGsP in attendance, all of whom had previously led the force. Gillani highlighted the J&K Police’s commitment to organizing various events as part of its Civic Action Programme at different levels within the Union Territory.

S.J.M Gillani shared that this year, the UT had hosted three major Central-level events, with approximately 7,000 players participating. He further mentioned that the current event had attracted over 5,000 athletes, an increase from the 3,500 participants in the previous year.

Earlier in the day, the event began with the flag-off by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Armed J&K, S.J.M Gillani. It witnessed the participation of more than 5,000 athletes from across the country, including international and national-level players. The race featured 13 different categories and drew in a diverse group of participants, including students, locals, and individuals with disabilities.
