Srinagar, Oct 15: Thousands of devout Muslims gathered at the revered Dastgeer Sahib (R.A) Shrine in Khanyar, Srinagar, on Tuesday to commemorate the annual Urs Mubarak of the esteemed Sufi saint, Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA), widely known as Peer Dastageer Sahib (RA).
This year’s Urs witnessed a profound display of devotion and spiritual fervor as worshippers thronged the Dastageer Sahib shrines at Khanyar and Saraibala to pay their respects. Holy relics were showcased to the faithful after each of the five daily prayers, fostering a deep sense of unity and spirituality among attendees.
The administration, in coordination with the WAKF board, made comprehensive arrangements to facilitate night-long prayers. Emotional scenes were observed at both shrines as devotees, including women and children, prayed earnestly, their emotions pouring forth in tears as they sought blessings and expressed their faith.
Urs ceremony was held at the Khanyar shrine, which, along with the Saraibala shrine, was adorned with festive decorations. Stalls offering local delicacies and goods were set up, and the surrounding markets were illuminated with vibrant lights, enhancing the celebratory mood.
The Urs of Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) is traditionally marked in the fourth month of the Islamic Hijri calendar, Rabi Us Sani. Although the saint never visited Kashmir, his spiritual legacy has deeply resonated with the local population, making the Urs a significant annual event.
In addition to Srinagar, other parts of the Kashmir Valley also observed the Urs with devotion, highlighting the enduring spiritual bond between Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) and the people of Kashmir.
