Srinagar, Jan 06: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Jammu on January 9 to conduct a thorough assessment of the security situation in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. Accompanied by Union Home Secretary AK Bhalla, Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director Tapan Deka, heads of all paramilitary forces, and senior officers from various security agencies, Shah will chair a high-level meeting to review the security scenario in the region.
A senior official informed Rising Kashmir that additional police and paramilitary forces have been deployed at critical locations in Jammu. As a precautionary measure, checkpoints, frisking points, and CCTV surveillance have been implemented to address heightened security concerns.
During his visit, Shah will also participate in the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ program. The official emphasized that checkpoints and inspection points along major highways within Jammu city will remain operational to prevent any untoward incidents.
In the outskirts of Jammu, barricades have been established at multiple locations in the city and other major towns to facilitate vehicle inspections. Random searches of cars and motorcycles are being conducted to thwart potential subversive plans by terrorists.
This visit follows a detailed security review conducted by Shah on January 2, focusing specifically on Rajouri and Poonch. These areas witnessed an increase in terror attacks last year, resulting in the loss of 19 soldiers in four incidents.
The earlier review in New Delhi saw Shah meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, top officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Army, paramilitary forces, and key civil and police officers from Jammu and Kashmir.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also visited Jammu and Rajouri on December 27 to assess the security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) following the Poonch terror attack. Singh outlined a “three-pronged strategy” for all ranks involved.
