Srinagar, Jan 01: The government has rolled out the Awaas+ 2024 mobile app under PMAY-G to allow citizens verify their eligibility through self-surveys using face authentication, ensuring a fair and streamlined approach to updating the beneficiary database.
As per the official Document accessed by Rising Kashmir, to achieve “Housing for All” in rural areas, the PMAY has been extended for five more years, from 2024-25 to 2028-29 to build an additional 2 crore houses for rural families. To ensure fair and efficient implementation, the Awaas+ 2024 app is being used to update the existing database of beneficiaries and include more eligible households, it said.
It also said that the Awaas+ 2024 app enables citizens to complete a self-survey directly from their phones and Beneficiaries can use Aadhaar-based face recognition to verify their identity and register for the scheme which makes the process quicker and more accessible, especially for people living in remote areas.
Surveyors registered through the app will also visit households for assisted surveys, ensuring no eligible family is left out, it said adding that they, too, will use face recognition to confirm their presence during the data collection process, which enhances transparency and reduces chances of errors.
The Ministry of Rural Development has directed all States and Union Territories to begin the survey process immediately. Officials have been instructed to complete the surveys by March 31, 2025. The Ministry has emphasized the importance of informing rural families about the self-survey option so that no one is excluded from the scheme.
The guidelines also include a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for using the app. States and UTs have been asked to ensure smooth implementation and encourage citizens to use the app for self-authentication.
This new approach is expected to simplify the process of identifying eligible beneficiaries, reduce delays, and minimize human errors. By allowing people to self-register, the government is ensuring that more deserving families benefit from the housing scheme.
The updated database and the use of advanced technology will help in better planning and faster execution of the housing scheme, ultimately improving the living conditions of rural families across the country, it added.
