Shopian, May 18: Chairperson of the J&K Waqf Board, Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi on Saturday met with a delegation of locals and held a meeting with prominent religious preachers in the Hirpora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
The meeting, organized by Javed Ahmad Qadiri, Executive Officer of the J&K Waqf Board for Shopian, aimed to address pressing community issues and promote spiritual teachings.
During the meeting, Dr Andrabi called for educating the youth about the dangers of drug abuse and instilling the teachings of Sufis and spiritual saints. “Ulema have a critical role in fostering awareness and guiding the youth towards positive and fulfilling lives,” she said. Dr Andrabi expressed her vision for an inclusive and humanitarian society characterized by peace and prosperity.
Reflecting on the interaction, the Waqf Board chairperson said, “It was a very positive conversation with the youth of the area and the prominent Ulema. Our youth are filled with positivity, and it is our responsibility to provide them with opportunities to realise their dreams. Our religious leaders are the reformists and spiritual guides who play a vital role in this process.”
Following the meeting, Dr Darakhshan led a vehicle rally from Hirpora to Poonch to participate in the Mohabbat-e-Rasool Conference. During the journey, she visited the shrine of Peer Sheikh Ahmed Karim (RA) at Pir Ki Gali, a notable spiritual site at the meeting point of Kashmir Valley and Poonch on the Pirpanjal top. Dr Andrabi paid her respects at the shrine and assessed the basic infrastructure needs to ensure better facilities for visitors and devotees.
