Baramulla, July 27: The Inter-District Provincial Level (IDPL) Under-17 Boys Football Competition got off to a vibrant and spirited start today in Baramulla. Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K, and hosted by DYSSO Baramulla, the tournament is being held simultaneously at St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School Football Grounds.A statement issued here said the opening ceremony was attended by DSP Baramulla, Mohammad Altaf Khan, who inaugurated the event as the Chief Guest, alongside DYSSO Baramulla Zahoor Ahmad Wani, Principal of St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School Suresh Britto, and SHO Baramulla Owais Geelani.The ceremony commenced with a March Past of all participating district teams, followed by the National Anthem and a collective Sports Pledge—symbolizing unity, discipline, and the true spirit of sportsmanship. A total of 10 district teams from across Kashmir Province are participating in this prestigious football event, which will run through July 29, 2025. Young footballers will compete with grit and passion, showcasing their skills and representing their respective districts with pride. In his inaugural address, Mohammad Altaf appreciated the enthusiasm and discipline of the young athletes and lauded the Youth Services and Sports Department for organising such a meaningful platform. “Sports not only builds character but also keeps our youth away from negative influences. Events like these shape futures,” he said. Principal of St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School Baramulla, in his address, extended a warm welcome to all participants and highlighted the importance of education and sports moving hand in hand. “We are proud to host such a vital event and witness the energy and potential of our youth,” he said.
