Leh/Kargil, April 23: In a moment of immense pride for the Union Territory of Ladakh, two young aspirants—Ghulam Haider from Kargil and Rigzen Angmo from Leh—have cleared the prestigious Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2024.
Their achievement is being hailed as a significant milestone, not just for them personally, but also for the youth of Ladakh, symbolizing the region’s growing presence on the national stage. Ghulam Haider, hailing from the remote village of Panikhar in Kargil district, secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 633. Son of Haji Ghulam Mehdi and younger brother of Senior KAS Officer Mohd Taqi, Haider’s journey from the rugged terrains of Panikhar to the elite list of UPSC qualifiers is being celebrated widely as a story of perseverance and grit.
Meanwhile, Rigzen Angmo, from Nurla in Leh district, cracked the exam with an impressive AIR of 848. Her success has especially resonated with young women across the region, showcasing the power of determination and the rise of empowered voices from the remotest corners of the country. The news has been met with widespread celebration across Ladakh. Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) B. D. Mishra, extended his heartfelt congratulations to both candidates. “Their success reflects not only personal brilliance but also the growing aspirations of Ladakhi youth,” he said.
Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa Jan, also lauded their accomplishments, calling it a proud moment for the entire region. “Their journey of grit, perseverance, and excellence will inspire generations to come,” he said. Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of Hill Council Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, praised both aspirants and wished them great success in their future roles in public service.
