Baramulla, March 03: Daily commuters, particularly employees and students on the 50 kilometre Srinagar-Baramulla highway stretch are facing hard time due to frequent traffic jams at peak hours.
“Traffic chaos is causing a great inconvenience”, said commuters.
Talking to the Rising Kashmir, one of the commuters said that even though the administration had begun the four-lanning process of National Highway, it got delayed due to unknown reasons.
Commuters said that they have been immensely suffering for the last several years. “Traffic jams can prove detrimental for patients in case of any medical emergency”, they said.
They said the frequent traffic jams especially at Pattan have become a norm over the last few decades. The narrow road at Pattan market is often considered a reason for frequent traffic jams.
Tawqeer Yousuf, a daily commuter said that the highway has been a headache for them as the traffic mess and poorly maintained roads result in one- hour travel time to at least 3 hours. “Once stuck in a traffic jam it can take hours to come out of it”, he said.
“Recently, I missed an appointment with a doctor at Srinagar due to the massive traffic jam. I reached two hours late and could not meet the doctor who arrived from Delhi,” said Irshad Ahmad of Sopore.
Commuters appealed to the concerned authorities and the district administration to look into the matter at an earliest so that they heave a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, Irfan Hafeez Lone, a DDC member told Rising Kashmir that the work on Flyover at Sangrama junction is in progress and was delayed due to the unfavourable weather conditions,
Hee stated that widening of Sangrama-Tappar road is also going on and the ongoing work is expected to be completed in a stipulated time.
