Two labourers from UP killed in Shopian grenade attack

Shopian, Oct 18: Two labourers hailing from Uttar Pradesh were killed in their sleep when terrorists lobbed a grenade at them on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday in of South Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said on Tuesday.
Police identified the slain labourers as Monish Kumar and Ram Sagar, both residents of Kanooj, Uttar Pradesh.
The police said that the incident took place at around 12.30 am on Tuesday when the victims, natives of UP’s Kannauj district, were sleeping in a tin shed constructed as an out-house.
The officials added that the duo was working in the apple orchards as labourers.
Following the incident, both were shifted to the Shopian district hospital where they were declared brought dead.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar visited the terror crime scene. He said the actual grenade thrower terrorist and his accomplice have been arrested by police within hours of the incident.
“Two people have been arrested so far and the main accused has confessed to the crime,” he said adding that hunt for other members of the group is on and very soon they will be tracked down.
He said the main culprits who hatched the conspiracy for this gruesome terror crime and got it executed including terrorist Danish and District Commander of LeT Abid who shall be brought to justice very soon.
ADGP Kumar further said that the investigation in the case is vigorously going on and based on the revelations made by the arrested terrorists and same being further corroborated by other evidence including human and technical intelligence. The hunt for other involved terrorists is on, he said.
He said it was revealed during the interrogation of the main accused lobbed the grenade at the behest of Lashkar-e-Toiba commanders Danish and Abid.
“Claim made by Al-Badr is fake. The fact is that Lashkar is behind the act,” he said, adding that searches are underway in the area and very soon Lashkar commanders Danish and Abid will be killed,” ADGP said.
A police spokesman said terrorists killed two outside labourers in a grenade attack in Hermain area of Shopian in the dead of the night while they were asleep.
Senior police officers along with reinforcement reached the terror crime spot.
“At about 11:45 pm-midnight, Shopian Police received information about a terror crime incident at Hermain Shopian, where terrorists had lobbed a hand grenade upon outside labourers while they were sleeping in their rented accommodation,” he said.
The spokesman said in this terror crime incident, two outside labourers identified as Monish Kumar and Ram Sagar, both residents of Kanooj, UP received critical splinter injuries.
Both the injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital however they succumbed to their injuries, he said.
“The whole area was cordoned off and a massive joint cordon and search operation was launched,” the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the investigation conducted revealed that the grenade at the accommodation of the labourers was thrown by one hybrid terrorist linked with LeT, identified as Imran Bashir Ganie of Hermain Shopian, who was promptly arrested by Police within hours of the terror crime incident,” he said.
The spokesman said apart from confessing about his involvement in the said gruesome terror crime, led police to arrest of his terrorist accomplice.
During one such CASO, although contact with terrorists was established but they managed to flee from the spot however, the efforts are on to nab them. Moreover, CASOs to nab the other involved terrorists is in progress at many places.
