Baramulla, June 17: In a remarkable medical feat, a team of skilled surgeons led by Dr. Prof. Ruby Reshi, Principal of GMC Baramulla, successfully performed a twin surgery on two patients.
The intricate procedure involved the restoration of complex maxillofacial injuries, specifically the zygomatico maxillary complex fracture, coupled with an intertrochanteric femur fracture.
The twin surgeries were carried out simultaneously, ensuring the highest level of efficiency and coordinated care.
The zygomatico maxillary complex (ZMC) fracture, known for causing cosmetic deformity and functional deficits such as altered vision, restricted mouth opening, and paresthesia, presented a considerable challenge.
A health care official said that the ZMC’s multipoint-articulation within the craniofacial skeleton and the difficulty in assessing reduction at all articulations during surgery made the procedure even more complex.
“However, under the skillful guidance of Dr. Babar Ali Shah, Head of the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, and the dedicated surgical team led by Dr. Nahida Dar, the patient’s facial aesthetics and functional deficits were accurately restored,”he added.
The successful twin surgery, performed, was made possible by the unwavering support and motivation from Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, Medical Superintendent, and the collaborative efforts of the orthopedic team, led by Dr. Basharat Saleem.
Both procedures were conducted under the expert supervision of Dr. Fehmeeda, who provided excellent general anesthesia support and control, ensuring the patients’ safety and comfort throughout the surgeries.
The surgical team extended their gratitude to the dedicated theater assistants, Irshad and Tawseef, who played a vital role in assisting the surgeons during the complex procedure.
Furthermore, the support and cooperation of Dr. Budoo, Dr. Zameer, and their team were greatly appreciated.
It is worth mentioning that the twin surgeries were operated on under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, a government healthcare initiative aimed at providing comprehensive medical care to the underprivileged.
