Ganderbal, Dec 15: The once pristine Tulmulla Nallah, locally known as “Naagpav,” in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, is now grappling with the looming danger of pollution, jeopardizing its existence as the primary water source for thousands of residents.
Local inhabitants have voiced concerns, attributing the decline in the Nallah’s condition to rampant pollution along its banks. They point fingers at the negligence of the concerned department and an irresponsible approach by the residents residing alongside the Nallah, asserting that these factors have collectively contributed to the degradation of this vital water resource.
Originating from a spring in the Lar area of the district, the Nallah traverses through Tulmullah village before converging with the river Jhelum at Shadipora. Residents recollect that just a decade ago, the Nallah’s waters were crystal clear, serving as a lifeline for thousands. However, relentless pollution and a lackadaisical attitude have taken a toll on its once pristine state.
Despite recent efforts by the district administration to preserve and clean water bodies across the region, Tulmulla Nallah has been overlooked, lament the locals. Urging immediate action, they emphasize the need for dredging and cleaning the waste alongside its banks to salvage this vital water body.
The community appeals to the local administration to swiftly implement necessary measures, underscoring the urgency of restoring Tulmulla Nallah to its former glory and ensuring the well-being of the thousands who depend on it for their water needs.
