Ganderbal, Oct 04: In a significant step towards ensuring the welfare and safety of pastoral tribal families, the first convoy of nine trucks was ceremoniously flagged off on Wednesday by Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani, from Lar in the Ganderbal district.
The flag-off event witnessed the presence of key dignitaries, including the Additional Superintendent of Police, the District Sheep Husbandry Officer of Ganderbal, and the SHO of Lar.
This convoy, comprising a total of nine trucks, embarked on a vital mission to transport five migratory tribal families, accompanied by an impressive count of 449 sheep and goats, from various locations within the district. The departure points included Rangil, Babadaryadin, Safapora, and Wayil, all set to embark on their journeys to Reasi and Rajouri districts within the Jammu division.
The endeavor to facilitate the transportation of nomadic and tribal communities, along with their valuable livestock, comes as a proactive response to directives received from the Tribal Affairs Department. This initiative, launched in the 2022-23 fiscal year, is a collaborative effort by the district administration, the Department of Sheep Husbandry, the Road Transport Corporation (RTC), and the Regional Transport Office (ARTO).
The safe transport of these pastoral tribal families and their livestock to highland pastures is of paramount importance to support their traditional way of life and ensure the well-being of both the communities and their valuable animals. This marks a significant stride in upholding the welfare of these cherished nomadic communities within the region.
