Jammu, Jan 04: In a grand ceremony, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha graced the 8th Convocation of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu, applauding the academic prowess of 590 students, including 347 outstanding female graduates from diverse disciplines.
In a statement, the Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST, Jammu, mentioned that due to adverse weather conditions and poor visibility, the scheduled arrival of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar at the convocation was not possible, as the landing in Jammu could not be facilitated.
Extending his heartfelt congratulations, Lt. Governor Sinha commended the dedication of graduating students, faculty, and staff, transforming SKUAST Jammu into a distinguished centre for Agricultural Science and Technology. He underscored the pivotal role of researchers and innovators in elevating the institution into an excellence hub.
Meritorious students received Medals of Excellence, with special recognition for women graduates securing an impressive 10 out of 11 Gold Medals. Lt. Governor Sinha praised the increasing prominence of young women in Agricultural Science and Technology, considering them as inspiring role models for the younger generation.
Acknowledging the historical contributions of women as unsung heroes in agricultural development, Lt. Governor Sinha expressed confidence in their potential to drive groundbreaking discoveries and inventions in agriculture.
Emphasising a vision for a modern and sustainable agriculture industry through the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Lt. Governor Sinha urged educational institutions, including SKUAST, to adopt innovative approaches. He identified agri-innovation, agri-technology, and processed food as key areas where India holds immense potential.
Assuring unwavering support from the UT Administration, Lt. Governor Sinha extended his best wishes for SKUAST Jammu’s ongoing success and advised the institution to explore projects with significant export potential.
Despite adverse weather conditions preventing the Vice President of India’s attendance, Lt. Governor Sinha, in a symbolic gesture, planted a tree sapling on the university grounds.
Distinguished attendees included Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member of Parliament; Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Shailendra Kumar, Principal Secretary Agriculture Production Department; Santosh D Vaidya, Principal Secretary Finance Department; Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department; Vice-Chancellors of various Universities, Heads of educational institutions, senior officials, and students and faculty members of SKUAST.
