Srinagar, Aug 05: The Land Resources Division of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), with support from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, inaugurated a three-day training workshop titled “Forest and Climate Change: Opportunities and Challenges of Adaptation and Mitigation” at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K).According to a statement issued here, the workshop brings together 30 participants, including Class I officials from the Horticulture Department and faculty members from SKUAST-K. The initiative aims to build capacity on climate change adaptation and mitigation through various nature-based solution (NBS) interventions, while aligning with India’s climate commitments under the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).The inaugural session began with welcome remarks by Dr Syed Arif Wali, Associate Director, Land Resources Division, TERI, followed by special remarks from Prof. A. H. Mughal, Dean, Faculty of Forestry, SKUAST-K. Prof. Haroon Rashid Naik, Director, Research, SKUAST-Kashmir, presided over the session and delivered the inaugural address. The keynote address was delivered by Irfan Rasool Wani, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, J&K Forest Department. K. N. Qaiser. Controller of Examinations, SKUAST-K, also shared his valuable remarks, emphasising the importance of integrating climate resilience into academic and field-level practices.
