New Delhi, Dec 21: A weeklong training programme on “Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS for Land Resource Management” wrapped up Saturday at the National Bureau of Soil Survey & Land Use Planning (NBSS&LUP), IARI campus, PUSA, New Delhi.
Held from December 16–21, the programme was attended by 10 officers from the Directorate of Agriculture, Jammu, as part of the Capacity Building Component of the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Project 19 (JKSLRI), for 2024-25.
The training focused on harnessing Remote Sensing and GIS technologies for effective land resource management, including soil mapping, crop monitoring, yield predictions, and water resource management. The sessions were led by esteemed experts from NBSS&LUP Nagpur, RC Delhi, and IARI, such as Dr. G.P. Obi Reddy, Dr. R.N. Sahoo, Dr. Chander Mohan Adhikari, and Dr. Jaya N. Surya. Participants also took part in a field visit to study soil profiles, gaining practical experience with these technologies.
Arvinder Singh Reen, Director of Agriculture Jammu, addressed the valedictory session via video conference, expressing his gratitude to Dr. N.G. Patil, Director of NBSS&LUP Nagpur, for facilitating the programme. In his address, Director Reen highlighted the importance of Remote Sensing and GIS in transforming agricultural practices, especially in soil management, climate adaptation and precision farming.
