Ganderbal, July 16: Three tourists, including two women, lost their lives while a child sustained critical injuries after their vehicle met with an accident on the Srinagar-Leh highway near the Pani Matha Zojila Pass area on Tuesday.
According to officials, the Tata Sumo, bearing registration number JK13B-9912, was travelling from Sonamarg to Zero-Point when it skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge near the Pani Matha area. The vehicle had four passengers on board.
The driver miraculously escaped without injuries. However, two women and a man accompanying them died on the spot.
The identities of the deceased are as Tandra Dass, 67, wife of Sunil Kumar Dass, resident of Bellandur South, Bangalore. Monalisha Dass, 41, wife of Sourish Khan, resident of Bellandur South, Bangalore. Champak Das, 43, son of Sunil Kumar Dass, resident of Bellandur South, Bangalore.
A child, Aadrita Khan, 8, daughter of Sourish Khan, resident of Bellandur South, Bangalore, sustained critical injuries and has been shifted to SKIMS Soura for further treatment.
The local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the accident.
