One of the beautiful names of Allah (SWT) is that he is the Forgiver. Allah (SWT) taught us even how to forgive those who have done injustice to us. The subject of ‘forgiveness’ is very important in our daily lives. If we acquire this characteristic we will be able to live in peace and harmony in this world, and will be rewarded in the hereafter. Also, the concept of tolerance and forgiveness is mentioned many times in the Holy Quran and it was also practiced by our beloved Prophet (SAW) in his life span.
In the Holy Quran, Allah (SWT) teaches us to forgive those who have done harm to us. In doing so, He will forgive us for our previous mistakes and will reward us in this world and in the hereafter. Furthermore, Allah (SWT) taught His Prophet (SAW) to practice forgiveness even to his enemies so as to give them a good example in life.
The Holy Prophet (SAW) explained to us that on the Day of Judgment, forgiveness is given to those who forgave others. They are to be rewarded and are to enter paradise. In some cases forgiveness does not imply that you overlook or dismiss the gravity of a wrongdoing committed against you but in general, forgiveness is a positive thing to do, and it may also be beneficial to our wellbeing.
We all should take the initiative to forgive one another. Avoiding jealousy and envy to one another can spread love and compassion in our society. We should remember the good things that others have done and achieved. Let us not remember the mistakes of others, otherwise, the other group of people will remember our mistakes, our sins and our mischiefs. It is the duty of everyone that he should try to correct himself. Each one should forgive each other and each should try to bring peace, harmony, concord and happiness to all.
Being responsible citizens we should always try to help and to safe guard one another. We should not remind others of their mistakes and shortcomings instead we need to remind them of their good deeds and their achievements. Instead of dwelling on our hurt feelings and giving the person who hurt us to take control of us, we need to look for the love, beauty, and kindness that surround us.
It is always a good practice to spend more time in appreciating what we have rather than worrying about what we don’t have. We should try to put our more energy in doing positive things and abstain from doing harmful things in our life. The act of forgiveness brings peace and mercy in our lives as it helps us to heal.
